Alpha Centauri a triple star system which is about 4.39 light years away from Earth.There are mainly three stars Alpha Centauri A, Alpha Centauri B, Proxima. For reaching alpha centauri B it would take us about 100 years by conventional resources avaliable in 21st centaury, If we travel with avg velocity of 13,411 Km/hr. Since
Alpha Centauri is roughly about 24 trillion miles away it would take 137 thousand years to reach there.
The question is quite simple that can we reach there?
As per now we cannot reach alpha centauri because we do not have basic things that can help us reach there. If we take a look at our space shuttles and think of taking them for inter space travelling then it might be impossible. Because for moving out of earth we require fuel, and the quantity of fuel used is more then the shuttle meaning if we think of using these spacecraft tech for travelling inter-space then it might be impossible.
Many scientists around the globe are working on this problem to solve it. Travelling interstellar distance is harder because it takes right propulsion to move from one place to another. Many times you might have seen in the movies like Star Wars, Star Trek that they use a word hyperdrive and arrives at the destination in minutes. Now you might think why don’t we try doing so in real life, but in reality is much harder.
Potential solutions for Interstellar Travel :-

- Fusion Rockets.
- Bussard ramjets etc,
The future of interspace exploring !
Since at present humans cannot travel, So a project named “Sailing on laser power” OR “Breakthrough star shot project” started by Yuri Milner two years ago. This program was initially backed by former cosmologist “Stephen Hawkins”. He aimed to create a nano craft comprised of a light sail and a gram wafer together called a star chip. This star chip comprises of a radio, solar cell, magnetometer. This nano-graph has a mirror like sail design, of size about 10 sq meters, mass of less than 1 gram.
If we let these sails to travel in space, without any medium then these sails will take a very long time. So scientist’s has thought of something known as light propulsion(in this we may use radio waves of high frequency for the sails to move ) in outer space. For this we will have to create a very large laser which would push these sails in space. Even if we gain success in manufacturing this laser then also it would take about 20 years (approximately 7300 days) to reach Alpha Centauri.
